What is the Filipino Women’s Association-UK (FWA-UK) Mrs Angeles Quimson Scholarship?
This is an education project of the FWA-UK which is named after the Association’s founder, Mrs Angeles ‘Nené’ T Quimson. The scholarship, which is in its 33rd year of operation, currently provides funding to high school students (Grades 7-12) in state-run or public schools in the Philippines. Of over 150 scholarships offered over the years, only 3 students failed to complete their studies (2 took full time employment; 1 disabled student was adopted and lived abroad with the adoptive family).
Who can apply for the FWA-UK Scholarship?
Students from low-income families in the Philippines who wish to enrol in public high schools or are already enrolled in public high schools but are struggling with the cost of continuing their high school studies can apply for a scholarship. Due to limited resources and to give opportunities to other families, only one student per family can apply.
What information would be required in the application for scholarship?
The following documents are required:
- Completed Application Form (complete online or download the form) with the applicant’s recent passport size photograph (4 x 6 cm) attached.
- Signed copy of the most recent report card. (On acceptance, the student will be required to submit the signed quarterly report card to the FWA-UK.)
- Letter from the applicant giving reasons for applying for a scholarship and why FWA-UK should consider the applicant over other applicants. This may include academic and non-academic achievements, commitment to learn, ambition, and participation in the community (civic involvement, volunteering). This should be on one page of an A4 size paper (210 x 297mm).
- Letter from a teacher/adviser confirming the applicant’s academic and non-academic abilities,
performance, and conduct. - Letter of endorsement from a social worker (for students with disabilities) or community elder (Barangay officer or church elder) confirming the socio-economic background of the applicant’s family
- Amount requested and itemised list of projected expenses
When and where should the Application Form and documents be submitted?
When: Due to the continuing disruption caused by COVID-19 to the school calendar, FWA-UK has deferred stating a set date for receipt of applications for scholarships. The Association instead adopts an ‘as soon as possible after the release of the final report card’ temporary policy (typically at the end of each school year).

When will an applicant know the result of her/his application?
The FWA-UK will convene a meeting to consider all applications within 2 weeks of the deadline. The FWA-UK will submit its recommendations to the nearest Executive Board meeting. The Executive Board’s decision for the approval of scholarship applications is final. All applicants will be notified by email by the Chairman of the Education & Scholarship Grants Committee within 48 hours of the decision of the Executive Board.
Important Note:
Incomplete applications will be rejected automatically. It is therefore important to make a checklist of the requirements and be sure that all information and documents are complete. Applications received after the deadline will not usually be considered.
