On 31st August, the Filipino Women’s Association UK (FWA-UK) organised a wonderful summer getaway, taking members and friends on an unforgettable trip to some of England’s most picturesque locations. Despite the overcast skies, spirits were high, and the day was filled with scenic exploration, community bonding, and a bit of retail therapy.
The Journey Begins
The day started early, with a prompt 8 AM departure from Westminster Cathedral, Victoria. A comfortable 53-seater coach, equipped with air conditioning and an on-board toilet, ensured everyone’s journey was as smooth as possible. Although the weather was cloudy, the group’s excitement was undampened as they anticipated the beauty and charm that awaited them in the Cotswolds.
First Stop: Bourton-on-the-Water
Our first destination was the enchanting village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the “Venice of England”. Even under the grey skies, the village’s charm was undeniable. The serene river, quaint stone bridges, and charming cottages provided a peaceful setting for a leisurely morning stroll. Participants had the chance to soak in the beauty of the village, capture atmospheric photos, and enjoy the unique tranquillity of this picturesque spot.
Exploring Arlington Row, Bibury
Next on the itinerary was Arlington Row in Bibury, a location that has been hailed as one of the most picturesque places in England. This historic row of weavers’ cottages, maintained by the National Trust, has been featured in films such as Stardust and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The timeless beauty of Arlington Row shone through the clouds, leaving everyone in awe. The group took their time exploring the area, marvelling at the architecture and the serene countryside that surrounded them, even in the subdued light of the day.
Retail Therapy at Swindon Shopping Outlet
The final stop of the day was at the Swindon Shopping Outlet, where participants could indulge in some retail therapy. With a wide array of stores offering fantastic discounts, this was the perfect opportunity for everyone to pick up a few bargains or simply window shop. The variety of shops catered to all tastes, ensuring that everyone left with something special.
A Day Well Spent
The day concluded with a relaxed return journey to Westminster Cathedral, arriving back at 6 PM. The trip was a resounding success, filled with laughter, new friendships, and cherished memories.
