Challenge 48 was a novel fundraising initiative by a member born in 1948 (Wylma Regala) and who turned 48 in the year it was launched in 1996. Its purpose was to raise more funds for the FWA–UK’s main commitments and projects. The challenge was addressed to members born in the same year to form the core group and to other members to participate in the challenge. Forty-eight members unselfishly answered this call, raising a total of £1,709.88. The challenge was open for 48 days, from January 31, 1996 to March 16, 1996:
- For any single contribution of £100 or more, £48 was added,
- Where two to four members joined together to raise £100 or more, 48% of £48 (£23.04) was added,
- Any single donation less than £100 got an additional 4.8%.
- In recognition of the enthusiasm and generosity of the participating members, FWA–UK conveys its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude
- to our 48 members & friends who helped raise the needed funds.
In the past years, FWA–UK has also built a Health Centre in a remote village in Quezon province and financed its first medical supplies; renovated the Children’s Orthopaedic Ward in the Philippine General Hospital; gave aid to the Bahay Ampunan, home for the aged.
