College Scholarship Application

At FWA-UK, we believe in the power of education and support individuals in achieving their academic goals. Our scholarship programme provides opportunities for underprivileged children in the Philippines to excel in their fields and make a positive impact in their communities.

We have listed some information below for you to consider if you are interested in applying for a scholarship.

What is the Filipino Women’s Association-UK (FWA-UK) College Education Grants?

The ‘FWA-UK College Education Grants’ is the FWA-UK’s financial assistance programme
to deserving Filipino high school graduates disadvantaged by poverty or disabilities who are
intending to pursue a degree or technical 4-year course in government funded higher education
institutions or technical colleges in the Philippines. The project is FWA-UK’s response to the
increasing local and global demand by employers for graduates and technology skilled people
as a minimum requirement for employment.

The project which is in its pilot stage will run for at least four years or until the completion of the
course by the selected scholar, whichever is earlier. The Executive Board will review the pilot
project at the end of the pilot year.

What is the Purpose of FWA-UK College Education Grant?

The FWA-UK College Education Grant aims to provide opportunities to deserving high
school graduates in the Philippines disadvantaged by poverty and/or disability to increase their chances to obtain better employment opportunities and improve their lives by furthering their education and
potentially contribute to the development of their community.

What are the Criteria to qualify for the College Grant?

Criteria & Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must have successfully completed high school in the year of application.
    Priority will be given to the current FWA-UK senior scholars and former FWA-UK
    scholars who continue to be in financial hardship, provided they meet the other criteria
    e.g. type of course and enrolled in a government higher education institution (HEI).
  2. Applicants must attend CHED recognized institutions such as government universities,
    colleges, technical schools, trade, and vocational institutions.
  3. Applicants must take one of the three courses suggested by FWA-UK EB members
    (Accountancy/ Education/ Engineering and related technical, science and vocational
    courses).
  4. Applicants must NOT be related to any member of the FWA-UK Board of Trustees and
    its Committees.

How is the allocation of the bi-annual allowance?

The amount will be allocated and distributed on a per semester basis. This fund will cover the
scholar’s academic expenses such as the school activities, transportation, learning materials,
lodging and daily allowance.

The Scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s parents/guardian. A letter of acceptance
or proof of enrolment is required. This letter must be submitted with the application.

What information would be required in the application for the College Grant?

All applicants will submit a completed scholarship application form, documentary
requirements, and an essay on how FWA-UK scholarship will impact their life. (See Application

What is my accountability should I be accepted as FWA-UK scholar?

You are required to submit a copy of your certified grades in a timely manner after every
semester, failure to do so may affect the release of future funding.

When and where should the Application Form and documents be submitted?

When: The Association adopts an ‘as soon as possible after the release of the final
grades’ temporary policy.

When will an applicant know the result of her/his application?

The Education & Scholarship Grants Committee (ESGC) will convene a meeting to consider
all applications within 2 weeks of the deadline for submission of applications. The ESGC will
submit its recommendations to the nearest Executive Board meeting. The Executive Board’s
decision for the approval of scholarship applications is final. All applicants will be notified by
email by the Chairman of ESGC within 48 hours of the decision of the Executive Board.

Important Note:

Incomplete applications will be rejected automatically. It is therefore important to make a checklist of the requirements and be sure that all information and documents are complete. Applications received after the deadline will not usually be considered.
