The Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington became a centre of festive cheer and Filipino traditions as the Filipino Women’s Association in the UK (FWA-UK) gathered for their much-anticipated Christmas party on Saturday, 9th December 2023. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Simbang Gabi at Karoling,” capturing the essence of traditional Filipino Christmas celebrations.

A Warm Welcome and Festive Cheers

The festivities kicked off with a delightful welcome at the reception, where members and guests were greeted with infectious holiday spirit and a selection of welcome drinks. The Liffey Suite on the 1st floor was buzzing with excitement as attendees eagerly awaited the afternoon’s programme.

Chairman Dulia Prado set the tone for the day with heartfelt welcome greetings, expressing gratitude for the community’s resilience and unity throughout the year.

Inspirational Moments from Madame Lourdes Barcelon-Locsin

The event gained an extra special touch with the presence of Madame Lourdes Barcelon-Locsin from the Philippine Embassy in London. Madame Locsin shared festive wishes and words of inspiration, emphasising the significance of coming together as a community during the holiday season.

Musical Enchantment with Jhermy Roy and Melody Prado-Aguirre

The enchanting melodies of Jhermy Roy, one of the event hosts, filled the room with joy during his Christmas medley. Following the musical interlude, Melody Prado-Aguirre, accompanied by her children Isaiah, Mateo, and Isla, serenaded the audience with a heartwarming rendition of “O Holy Night.”

Tradition Comes Alive: Welcome Christmas Family and Gift Giving

The Christmas party took a heartwarming turn as the Filipino Women’s Association showcased traditional Filipino family celebrations. Attendees were treated to the sight of children receiving gifts in the spirit of generosity and familial love.

Fun and Games for All Ages

The laughter of both children and adults echoed through the venue as FWA-UK Secretary Ira Lehmann, along with Luigi Crespo and Clarinda Mansfield from ILAW Ltd, conducted entertaining parlour games. The festive atmosphere reached its peak during carolling with the talented Victoria Alsina, a contestant from The Voice Kids UK 2020.

Raffle Draw and Acknowledgements

Excitement reached its zenith during the raffle draw, with lucky winners walking away with exciting prizes. A heartfelt round of acknowledgments followed, expressing gratitude to the donors, sponsors, and the hardworking event organising team, including hosts Jhermy Roy and Mimi Milli. Special thanks were extended to R&R Bristol, led by Ron Surca and Marissa Cariño, for providing the enchanting lights and sound that added to the magic of the evening.

Closing the Evening with Dance

As the night approached its conclusion, Vice-Chairman for External Affairs and Event Organiser, Wilma Lone, delivered closing remarks, thanking everyone for their participation and enthusiasm. The festivities, however, were far from over as dance time beckoned, providing the perfect finale to an evening filled with joy, laughter, and the spirit of Christmas.

The “Simbang Gabi at Karoling” theme successfully transported attendees to the heart of Filipino Christmas traditions, creating lasting memories that will be cherished until the next year’s celebration.
