On 27 January 2026, the FWA-UK Outreach Committee partnered with Skywalker Under One Sky for an evening of community outreach — and a clear reminder of why this work matters.
It was the kind of cold Tuesday night where the air seeps into your bones. But despite the chill, our hearts were steady and warm with purpose.
Guided by our team leader Fernanda, alongside Chairwoman Glyndell Belmonte, Outreach Committee Deputy Chair Kristine Innocencio, and Outreach Committee Chair Lesley Laroche, we set out with one shared goal: to support people sleeping rough, and to remind them they are seen and valued.
More than warmth in a cup
With flasks of hot tea and coffee in hand, we stepped into the night offering more than a hot drink. Sandwiches were prepared with care. Each piece of clothing handed over became a small shield against the biting wind.
But beyond the items we handed out, it was a simple question — “How are you tonight?” — that created the moments that mattered most.
There is something profoundly humbling about standing in the cold and realising that what feels like a small gesture to us can bring real comfort, relief, and dignity to someone else. We were fortunate to serve. To witness quiet smiles breaking through tired faces. To listen to stories of resilience. To offer warmth not only to the body, but to the spirit.
Compassion is not seasonal
Moments like these remind us that kindness does not require grand gestures. Sometimes it begins simply by showing up on a cold Tuesday evening and choosing to care.
Outreach does not require special skills — only willingness, teamwork, and a sincere desire to help. Even a few hours of your time can make a practical and meaningful difference.
