As we age, it’s important that we stay active, both physically and mentally. Sadly, many seniors can face isolation and loneliness, which can lead to poor physical and mental health. That’s why we at the Filipino Women’s Association UK are so grateful for the support of the National Lottery, which has allowed us to offer activity days and IT training programmes for seniors.
The National Lottery is an incredible institution that has been supporting community projects and initiatives for over 25 years. Through their funding, they have made it possible for us to provide a wide range of activities and training opportunities for seniors in our community. Thanks to their support, we have been able to help seniors stay active, engaged, and connected with others.
Our activity days are always a big hit with seniors. We organise a range of activities, including Zumba dance classes, theatre visits, and social events. These days give seniors the chance to get out of the house, meet new people, and have fun. We have seen firsthand how much of a difference these activity days can make to seniors’ lives. They leave feeling happier, more energised, and more connected to their community.
Our IT training programmes have also been hugely beneficial for seniors. We recognise that technology can be daunting for many seniors, and they may not have had the opportunity to learn how to use computers or smartphones. Our training programmes offer a relaxed and supportive environment where seniors can learn at their own pace. They gain valuable skills that can help them stay connected with loved ones, manage their finances, and access information.
The impact of our outreach programmes cannot be overstated. They have helped to combat loneliness and social isolation, improve mental health, and increase digital literacy among our elderly community members.
