Cawayan Elementary School

By: Imee Pinto

FWA-UK has been funding Cawayan Elementary School for a number of years now, initially with fundraising money donated by St.Peter’s RC Catholic School in Gloucester, and later from FWA-UK own raised funds.

The initial fundraising was for the construction of a Water Pump System Project, and this was completed in 2016, providing clean water for the school.

FWA-UK continued the support for Cawayan Elementary School financially for the building of an outdoor school stage for students to use especially during Graduation ceremonies and other outdoor activities of the School. The ‘school stage’ project was completed in September 2017. It was planned that FWA-UK members would visit the school to inspect first-hand the two completed projects. Imee Pinto and Clarita Richardson flew to Roxas Airport and were met by Cawayan Elementary School staff, who ferried them the 3-4 hours to the school.

The school children and staff warmly welcomed the FWA-UK visitors with open arms, made them feel at home and laid out an enormous platter of food to celebrate the success of the two projects.

Ms. Mildred Gustillo, the school Principal, then showed the FWA-UK representatives around the school and the pupils and teachers were so proud to display the two completed projects and the library.

The school stage is remarkably well built. This will help everybody in the school to enjoy special occasions, and to shelter from the weather during their events.

Ms. Gustillo suggested an engraved plaque to show the contribution of the FWA-UK. It was suggested that when engraving the plaque to include not just the FWA-UK, but also St.Peter’s RC Catholic School in Gloucester, and this was agreed.

Looking at the school library, books were lacking, and this was discussed during the Executive Board meeting. It was agreed to collect donations of unused children’s book from FWA-UK members, to send to the school library as the next project for the school.

Cawayan Elementary School Department of Education & the Committee of awards sent a CERTIFICATE of APPRECIATION to Clarita Richardson and Imee Pinto, which they proudly accepted on behalf of FWA-UK as proof of the Association’s endeavours.

FWA-UK has certainly made a positive impact in the lives of these young children. FWA-UK ensured that the past two projects were a success, and it is now continuing apace on the new project in support of the school library. Well done to everyone involved.
